Welcome to the website of the Australian Food Engineering Association (AFEA). We are a voluntary organisation committed to supporting the interests of engineers and people in related fields, working in the food and related industries.
The AFEA had its beginnings as the Food Engineering Interest Group (FEIG) in Victoria and as the Food Engineering Group of the Australian Institute of Food Science & Technology (AIFST) in New South Wales, in the early 1990s. These were also voluntary groups which organised events of interest to people working in the food industry, such as technical seminars on cleaning methods, processing methods and plant tours.
In 1998, the groups were combined and formalised into the AFEA. This also formalised the support of the three sponsoring professional associations, the AIFST, IChemE (Institute of Chemical Engineers) and Engineers Australia, via a Memorandum of Understanding with each organisation.
The NSW and Victorian branches continue to be led by voluntary committees and organise technical seminars on topics of current interest, as well as annual social dinners and student careers nights.
Membership is free and open to all who are interested in the food and related industries, including engineers, food and packaging technologists, managers, students and members of their faculties. Click here to join the Victorian branch - you will be added to the mailing list (email) to be notified of news and upcoming events.
